Description

Wonderlic Inc. is a recognized leader in the development, delivery, and support of employment and adult educational assessments. Wonderlic is actively recruiting an experienced Research Scientist to build and direct a team dedicated to new test development.

The Director of New Test Development will drive the development of new measures to meet the needs of clients in both industry and education by designing and managing projects, recruiting and developing resources and delivering products on schedule

Strong candidates will have experience building high-quality selection tools in the areas of basic skills, cognitive ability, personality and/or behavioral reliability. They must be creative, self-motivated, results-oriented, professional, conscientious, persistent, thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess strong project management skills. In addition, strong candidates will have had experience working directly with clients to determine their needs. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience building tests, managing outside resources for item development and review, managing field testing, analyzing test data using both traditional and IRT methodology, managing the creation of scoring mechanisms, documenting results in technical reports or test manuals, and creating reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Independently manage test development projects for both business and educational environments.

Provide hands-on leadership which may include any of the following tasks: 

  • Evaluating client or market needs to determine test content and design.
  • Defining a technical approach and a research/analysis plan for a new test.
  • Adhering to Wonderlic research guidelines and standards.
  • Accepting design feedback from research scientists and psychometricians on staff.
  • Developing tests that are scored using 1 and 3 parameter IRT as well as traditional scoring.
  • Assigning and monitoring staff work and providing guidance to ensure the quality of all results.
  • Managing outside resources (item writers, subject matter experts, etc.) to ensure that all services are delivered as contracted and on time.
  • Writing field testing materials, as required.
  • Reviewing and/or writing test items to ensure their quality, appropriateness and fairness.
  • Managing field testing design, operations, and handling of data collection.
  • Writing and publishing results in the form of Technical Manuals, User’s Manuals, submissions to governmental agencies, white papers or articles.
  • Communicating project status to the team, department and management.
  • Communicating effectively and productively with clients.
  • Managing overall schedules and costs to ensure that all milestones, deliverables and final products are delivered on-time and within budget.

 Requirements include:

  • A Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years post-graduate, relevant work experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Development experience with IRT.
  • Knowledge of the legal issues specific to employment testing.
  • Experience with CAT is a plus.
